So, it wasn't until I found this forum that we learned about loose minerals and copper bolusing, etc so our goats had a mineral block their whole lives until a few weeks after I joined. Our goaties have definitely responded to the loose minerals (purina wind and rain red bag), and copper boluses (copasure). Some have improved more than others, since every goat is different. I know it will take a while for the fishtails, wiry coats, etc to go away and the true coat colors to emerge. But I was wondering if we should be bolusing more often than every few months for the goats that have not made a dramatic improvement? Some of them have gotten shiny coats and their black has gotten blacker but most of them still have fishtails and some still have rough coats and fishtails. Here are some pics of two of the rougher looking ones as an example:
Roger is 6 yo. Copper bolused Roger: May 6th 2018, Aug 1st 2018, Nov 18th 2018, May 11th 2019
Remember he has only been bolused 4 times in his life. We gave him a dose of replamin plus when we took these pics and I have given him a few doses at other times in the last year. He was born white with black trimmings.
Gilbert is 3. Copper bolused Gilbert: Mid April 2018, Aug 1st 2018, Dec 22nd 2018, May 24th 2019
We have noticed an improvement in him, on his front half he has turned noticeably blacker.
A few others also still have the wiry coats and reddish hair. Some of the ones that have gotten sleek still have fishtails.
My question is should we bolus the rougher looking ones more often? Or would Replamin be a better option? They definitely respond to the copper but I was wondering if they could have it more often. We give them each 1 copasure 4g bolus.
